Bulgarian Liberal Leader Criticizes President's Pro-Protest Bias

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevnieliev should also take into account those Bulgarians who support the cabinet of PM Plamen Oresharski, said liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms leader Lyutvi Mestan.

Mestan was critical of Plevneliev for one-sidedly siding with month-long massive street protests in Sofia requestin Oresharski's resignation.

"We agree with the President's appeal to hear the voice of protesters. But is he ready to hear the voice of those Bulgarians who support cabinet?" said the liberal leader at a MRF youth conerence in Shumen.

"Difference in opinion is not opposition. Difference in opinion is vital for democracy," added he.

Mestan stressed that Plevneliev must act the president of all Bulgarians.

He also added that the Oresharski cabinet was approved by a democratically elected parliament convened less than 2 months ago.

"We cannot keep on holdin elections whenever people take to the streets. That would mean a complete paralysis of institutions," stressed Mestan.
